  • Our professional service provides comprehensive education and care for managing diabetes from pre-diabetes diagnosis onwards.

    We are an adult service for all people living with diabetes of any type. We also can assist get started with the tools you need, from blood glucose meters to continuous glucose sensors and insulin pumps.

    We believe the management of diabetes takes a team, and will work with your loved ones and health care team to set you up for success.

    New to the area or diabetes and don't have a health care team? That's ok, we have an excellent network of allied health, medical and specialist diabetes services. We can help you navigate referral pathways to help you build a health care team that works with you and for you!

  • Our podiatry services are specific to diabetes and the high risk foot, with a complication prevention focus:

    • neurovascular foot health assessment for feet at risk (for people with diabetes, kidney disease, peripheral arterial disease)

    • podiatric foot care for nails. skin conditions and non-chronic wound care for general foot health.

    • home visits for elderly, palliative care or person living with a disability.

      We do not treat children, sports or work-injuries. If you are unsure if we provide the right podiatry for your feet, please ask before booking. We can provide you with a list of other great podiatry services in the region that provide these services.

ABOUT FOOTPRINTS DIABETES…

Established in November 2023, Footprints Diabetes is a diabetes education and podiatry service for adults, located in Kalgoorlie-Boulder WA we offer in-person consultations and telehealth.

Owner and practitioner, Maryanne Pannewig, is an AHPRA Registered Podiatrist and Registered Nurse, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science (Diabetes Education). Maryanne has more than 25 years experience as an allied health professional, and more than 10 years as a diabetes educator. She has lived and worked in the Goldfields WA since 1996.

Maryanne is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) and a Member of the Australian Podiatry Association. Maryanne is a Medicare and DVA registered provider for diabetes education and podiatry services.

Maryanne aims to provide diabetes education and care services that are empathetic and adaptive to the reality of the person living with diabetes. Through listening and the sharing of knowledge, she will tailor her sessions to support and empower you to live well on a life long health journey. Maryanne understands the burden of living with a chronic condition and provides care without judgement, as she knows it can be a difficult journey at times.

The vision behind Footprints Diabetes is address the geographical inequity in access to diabetes technology. As a certified product trainer for insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring systems, Maryanne is able to provide timely local support to assist you with the latest advances in diabetes therapy and assistive technology. With extensive experience in both hospital diabetes services and primary health chronic disease management, Maryanne advocates for team-based excellence in diabetes care and will work with your chosen health care team to help you reach your diabetes self- care goals.

  • "A CDE is recognised by the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) for their specialist knowledge and professional development in the field of diabetes education." (ADEA).

    A CDE is registered in a primary health care discipline and has completed an ADEA accredited post-graduate diabetes educator qualification.

    A CDE must participate in ongoing professional development in the speciality of diabetes education to maintain CDE status.

  • For commencing insulin pump therapy: you will need prescribing clinician referral for insulin pump training/commencement and a Letter of Clinical Need from a diabetes specialist (endocrinologist).

    For a standard diabetes education or podiatry appointment: no, you do not need a referral to book a standard diabetes education or podiatry service, however we highly recommend it because:

    • you may be eligible for allied health services under Medicare, accessed through your GP when they prepare a Chronic Condition Management Care Plan for you.

    • your GP can provide you with a copy of your care plan, medical history, current medication list and latest blood results to make sure you have all the information you need for your appointment at your fingertips.

  • We have the appropriate provider registrations for private health insurers, Medicare, DVA, and NDIS.

    You may be eligible for a private health insurance rebate on your diabetes education and/or podiatry session fee.

    Eligibility and rebate amount depends on your health insurance cover. Please note - not all health insurers include diabetes education in their packages. We are not able to check this for you, to avoid disappointment we strongly recommend you check with your health insurance fund prior to your appointment.

    We have HICAPS available for in-clinic claiming for Podiatry (excludes home visits).

    HICAPS is not available for diabetes education (the fee will need to be paid in-full upfront, a tax receipt will be provided for you to make a claim).

  • If you are living with a chronic medical condition you may be eligible for Medicare rebate you must have one of these referrals from your GP:

    The referral must be related to the management of your chronic medical condition.

    A separate referral is required for each type of service.

    Please note - Medicare requires full consultation fee to be paid up-front, we are then able to process an electronic claim and Medicare will pay a refund amount of $60.35 to your bank account.

    Please discuss with your GP or Medicare if you have any questions about Medicare billing or referral to allied health.

  • Diabetes tech products include -

    • blood glucose meters with linked apps for keeping all your diabetes data on your phone.

    • bolus calculator smartphone apps (meal time and correction insulin dose calculation).

    • insulin smart pens that link to apps to calculate, track and log your insulin (Novopen 6, Medtronic InPen)

    • continuous gluocse monitoring (CGM) systems (Freestyle Libre 2, Dexcom G6 & G7, Medtronic Guardian 4)

    • insulin pod therapy (Omnipod Dash System)

    • Insulin pump therapy including automated insulin delivery (AID) using linked CGM data.

    During your diabetes education session we will demonstrate the latest available diabetes tech, for you to make a decision about the right diabetes tools for your lifestyle.

    If you are living with type 1 diabetes we are able to help you access continuous glucose monitoring subsidised by the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).

    If you are a Department of Veteran's Affairs (DVA) Veteran Gold Card holders, or White Card holder with diabetes then you may be eligible for diabetes products under DVA.

    If you are not living with type 1 diabetes but on insulin and interested in CGM or insulin pod/pump therapy we can help you understand the diabetes tech products suitable for you and costs involved, including free trials or getting started deals currently available.
